One of the things they don’t tell you about when you start a business are all the sleepless nights. Sometimes they come from working late into the night, and other times they come from the stresses of your business.
Either way, the less sleep you get, the less productive you will be. And, oh by the way, you’ll also feel like crap. That’s no way to live!
The way to solve this problem is to make clean cuts from work mode into life mode. You need to separate the two.
This means when you are working, you focus on nothing else but the work at hand.
In those moments, everything you’ve got is thrown into your business. Nothing else should matter during that time.
When you are not working, you should focus just as hard on whatever non-work related stuff you are doing.
Whether it’s spending time with your partner, playing with your kids or washing the dishes, work should be the last thing on your mind.
Get rid of anything that would remind you of your business when you are not working. An easy way to do this is by turning off email notifications.
Before you go to bed, you should have at least one hour of this non-work time. That allows you to wind down so that when you lay down to go to sleep, the stresses from work are not dominating everything.
This is simple stuff, but believe me, it is easy to overlook them as an entrepreneur. I have struggled with this for years, and still fall off the boat on occasion.
Don’t despair – if you keep at it, you will be able to create an amazing business AND sleep like a champ!
